Journal Journey – Day 5: What Are You Still Carrying?

There comes a point in every healing journey when the weight you're carrying no longer belongs to your present; it belongs to your past.
The difficult part is that emotional burdens rarely announce themselves. They settle quietly into our routines. They become the stories we tell ourselves, the fears that influence our decisions, and the expectations we continue to meet even when no one is asking us to.
We carry old disappointments, conversations that should have ended years ago, dreams that changed, and versions of ourselves that we've already outgrown. Sometimes we hold on because we believe letting go means what happened didn't matter. In reality, releasing something doesn't erase its significance—it simply acknowledges that it has finished teaching you what it came to teach.
Imagine walking across a bridge with a backpack filled with stones. At first, you barely notice the extra weight. But mile after mile, each step becomes harder. The bridge hasn't become longer. You're simply carrying more than you were meant to.
Life works the same way.
Every unresolved hurt, every unnecessary obligation, every outdated belief adds another stone. Eventually, the exhaustion you feel isn't because you're weak;it's because you're overloaded.
Today isn't about pretending everything is okay. It's about asking yourself an honest question:
What am I still carrying that no longer serves who I am becoming?
Maybe it's resentment.
Maybe it's guilt.
Maybe it's the pressure to be everything for everyone.
Maybe it's the fear that if you let go, you'll lose a part of yourself.
The truth is that healing doesn't always require adding something new to your life. Sometimes growth begins with subtraction.
Today's Journal Prompts
1. What emotional weight have I been carrying for far too long?
2. Where did I first pick up this burden?
3. How has it protected me, and how has it limited me?
4. What would my life feel like if I set it down today?
5. What is one small action I can take this week to begin releasing it?
As you finish writing, close your journal for a moment. Take a deep breath and remind yourself that you don't have to carry yesterday into tomorrow.
The bridge ahead wasn't built for the weight of your past. It was built for the person you're becoming.
